website!

We started the lay out of our website the other week with the idea of making something simple and informative but still with our style in it so we told Mark about it to see what he had to say and the advice he gave us was really helpful, what he told us was that our website should be our shop window so that people can see if they want our services instantly, Mark also told us that it should be easy to navigate around so that its not to confusing for potential clients to find what they are looking for, and the best way of doing that would be to not have external links for example taking people to YouTube to show your film, just keep it all on your website this also means that people will stay on your website and potentially see more of your services, well that’s the idea!

we had a look at a few different websites to see what we did and didn’t like and then apply that to the lay out of our website, the first website that I took a look at was http://www.hexcam.co.uk/ which is another aerial videography company but I don’t like the lay out of there website as its a bit all over the place, but I did like the drop down menus that they used to take you to specific part of there web site, we will probably use drop down menus for our web site.

The other website that I took a look at was http://skyvantage.co.uk/ which again are an aerial videography company, there website has a lot of things to look at and I feel that less is more so show your best stuff but don’t give people so much to look at that they end up getting bored of your page, but when you first go on to there web site your meet by there home page which has a couple there own videos on it which I think were going to do as it shows off your strong points instantly.

So after looking at these different things we applied it to our website and here it is http://nextlevelaerialsin.wix.com/nextlevel feel free to have a look around but its not completely finished yet as we still need to put up a few more photos, videos, descriptions and our own personal CV. I’ve managed to get a little start on my online CV for the website but it is only a draft:

“My name is Kyle Dewick; I am Co-Founder of our company Next Level Aerials, within the company I work with the cameras like the Canon 600D and the GoPro 4 but we are looking to get a lot more cameras with a professional spec such as the Canon 5D mark 3 because it has a full frame sensor which will make our shots look a lot more cinematic! We are also hoping to get some new lenses so we can’t get even sharper images and film, I also fly the drone to try and get the best possible shots for our company and yours, I specify in nature shots of things like sun sets, coastal shoots and extreme high shots this is where I can see the shots that I want to film, I also have a good understanding of editing software such as Adobe premiere pro and Adobe after effects though it may not be my strong point I can still make a nifty edit if you would like it! Thank you”

I’m sure there our a few things wrong with it but I am going to get a tutor to look over it and tell me if there is a better way of doing it.

house edit!

The other Day me and Richard came up with a new idea to film a house that was really nice, and since then we have managed to film ad I have managed to edit it all together and make it look reasonable nice, everyone that I have shown has liked and thought that it flowed well, Richard said that…

Very nice edit mate. I’m impressed. I’ve only just looked at it because I wanted to do my edit before seeing yours. They’re obviously similar in content but very different in mood…..I actually think your style probably suits the house better than mine!! I’ll send a link when mine’s uploaded.

The way that we did this was that wen showed up at the house around about 3:30 in that after noon and had a quick look around and decided what shots shots we were going to use and then set about filming, unfortunately the weather outside was really bad so we couldn’t get to many shots of the outside with out it looking really dull and uninviting, so what we did was for the first hour or so we got sots from inside the house with out getting any of the windows in shot so we only used the inside light to light the shot, we manly used a track to get our shots but it was a little bit stiff so getting some of the shots was a bit shaky but we just shot it a few times and manged to get more footage then we actually needed which worked out for the best, the other thing that we used was a hand made crane and all it was, was a couple of carbon pools on a tripod and a little metal square to hold the camera but unfortunately there was no pivot for the camera so it was really wobbly so there was only a short bit of one of the shots that we could use but we still managed to use it in the edit and I think it worked quite well and didn’t look out of place. The other bit of equipment that was really exciting to use was the DJI Phantom quad-copter which is a little drone that can fly up to 996 foot but we only needed it for a big tilt of the house which I think that it made the edit look really nice, it took a while for the quad-copter to find a strong GPS signal but once it did it turned out really nicely. (here’ s a few pics of the quad-copter)

i feel that this edit went as well as it could have gone, we got all of the shots that we wanted and i think the edit did it justice, here it is.

I think that this shoot and edit worked really well and did the job that it needed to do which was showed off the house, if I could changed anything about the shoot I would probably spend more time on that hand made crane just so that it was a bit smoother and so that we could pivot the camera a bit more so that we could do tilts as well as pans, I would of also not done as many static shot’s because when it came to editing the film together i had to make some of the static shots move so that it didn’t look out of place, if I could change anything about the edit I would probably make it a little bit longer but I also feel as if it worked well at the length it is.

Post production idea

Post production idea

For the post production unit with Elliott I want to do a riding film of riders doing certain tricks such as tail whips, 360’s and manuals but it could be anything riding wise, but what I am going to do is when the person is abut to do the trick I will put the shot into slow motion and then try and make it so u see the person as a x-ray so you can see what the body is doing while there doing the trick for example if there is a shot of a person doing a invert table you will see that the bones wrapping around the body and the legs bending up on to the frame, and then I’m going to cut it back to normal speed and then it will no longer be x-ray.

Maybe as an additional to my project I could link it in with animation and when I slow my footage down I could include 3D graphics that pop up and kind of tutorial for you on how to do the trick for example if the person riding does a tail whip when I slow it down a line will point to there leg and say something like “kick your frame with your forward leg” and then one will point to the arms and say “whip them arms”

Rough idea for triptychs

Yesterday evening I got a e-mail from Liam asking us to show rough idea for our triptychs, I had an idea to do one about surfing as surfing is a passion of mine there for I thought that I would make a better triptych of something I am passionate about, so i thought of an idea about living your dreams so I took a picture of me getting our of bed then a picture of someone surfing and finally a picture of the beach at dusk, the idea behind it being that his dream is to surf for a living. When I showed Liam this idea he said that it would be good if I did it about life style choices because life style choices are sustainable. So now I am going to keyword searches on lifestyles, consumerism (as different types of life style will effect consumerism in different ways)

tate Trip

As part our corse we were taken to the Tate modern gallery to see the tanks exhibition.

Th first exhibition that I saw was the “Tino Sehgal 2012″ which was the first live commission in the Unilever series, which basically featured a lot of people dancing and moving around as a group and at the same time they were singing and shouting and making strange noises, in the middle of the exhibition the whole group broke up and went and spoke to random people in the audience, and one of the performers came and spoke to me, the first thing that she did was start making a weird noise like”sh sh sh sh” then stopped and started talking about how the world had changed and how it effected people but the whole time she was talking to me she just stood still and stared, the whole time this was going on the only thing that I could think that sits was trying to get across was that were all free but the world is changing, as for the technology used there was laughing on the keels that kept Changing and different lights would come on a different times that was the only technology used in this exhibition.

the next piece of art that we went to go see was the crystal quilt by Suzanne Lacy which was a installment showing about 400 women around the age of 60 sitting at a lot of red and yellow tables on a massive black cloth, this was all filmed and shown as a speed up time laps, the technology used was a camera to film the women walking around and sitting down and a projector to show what was filmed, i feel that the piece was trying to say was that we should understand that old people are still a part of our community so we shouldn’t just dismiss them as incapable people.

after seeing the crystal quilt we went to see Lis Rhodes Light Music, which was my favorite piece of art work in the whole gallery, the piece of art had to old flickering projectors facing each other but slightly tilted up so that it would project onto the wall behind one another, one of the main reasons that i liked this piece was because when you stood in the middle of the two projectors your shadow was cast on to the wall making you part of the art in a sense. i think that the message the artist was trying to get across was that we should see ourselves in a different lights, the technology used was two old projectors used to give a flickering effect, a smoke machine so that you could see the beam’s of light coming from the projectors and speakers so that you could hear the music being played.

the next piece of art that we saw was Sung Hwan Kim by Kathy Noble, which in my opinion was really not that great, i felt that there was to much to take in, in such a big area that you couldn’t fully understand what the artist was trying to say. basically the piece was showing a lot of abstract work some of children speaking for example when i put on one set of head phones i heard a child talking about how his farther had told him he should be greatful for what he had and that up north his uncle had to cut out part of his hip to feed his children but then you moved on to the next screen and it showed two people with tissue paper mask’s on, one as a dog and one as the owner  and more abstract pieces around the room, i didnt like this one cause i couldn’t fully understand it. the technology used was a few canvas screens so that you could see the film on both sides, projectors so that you could see the film and a wireless headphones so that you listen to what the people were saying instead of all the pieces being played out loud and have what the people were saying cross over.

as for the the live projects i found them to be quite boring as i am not the sort of person that likes art a whole bunch, i would rather watch a short film about what i am really interested in rather than looking at a few pictures of bombs with a bigger moving bomb in the middle and a few triptychs about some guys face that kept changing angle slowly and a few trees that were basically staying in the same place. but that is only my opinion, as for the technology used there were a few old projectors that gave one of the pieces a flickering effect and the other pictures that were being shown were from a slide show projector to keep the pictures still. and another piece had 3 projectors showing the triptychs, and all of these projectors were being controlled by one mixing desk in the middle of the room, i am sorry that there aren’t more pictures but it was hard to get a decent shot as most of the rooms were pitch black.

augmented reality

Augmented reality (AR) is a live view of real world environment with a animated in front of you either on the floor or on the table where you can use either or a card where virtual reality takes over reality in a sense. a good example of this would be the Nintendo 3DS where you can put a card down on the floor or table in front of you and then you point the Nintendo 3DS at the card and then you can either have a box pop up and then you can play with the box or you get different characters like Mario or Zelda.
